The Parable of the Net: Is Church Attendance Enough?

In Matthew 13:47-50, Jesus tells the Parable of the Net. Fishermen cast a large net into the sea and gather all kinds of fish. When the net is full, they separate the good fish from the bad.

Jesus explained that this is what will happen at the end. There will be a separation between the good and the bad.

One of the most sobering truths of this parable is that being "in the net" was not enough. All the fish were gathered together, but not all remained.

In the same way, attending church does not save anyone. Sitting in a pew, serving on a committee, singing in the choir, or even knowing Bible scripture cannot get us into heaven. Many people are around Christianity without ever truly knowing Christ.

Jesus isn't looking for religious activity; He desires a personal relationship with us.

The question isn't, "Do I go to church?" The question is, "Do I know Jesus?"

A church building cannot save you, but the Savior can.

Jesus said:

"And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:3 NKJV)

A rock-solid relationship with Christ is built through faith, prayer, obedience, and daily fellowship with Him. When our lives are anchored in Jesus, we don't just know about Him—we truly know Him.

So today, take an honest look at your heart. Are you trusting in your church attendance, or are you trusting in Christ alone?

The net is gathering, and one day there will be a separation. Make sure your faith is in Jesus, not simply in religion.
